WEST CEDAR STREET TOWNHOUSES – MARIST COLLEGE
Marist College, a private institution located on the Hudson River in Poughkeepsie, NY, hired Liscum, McCormack, VanVoorhis to design student housing for its upperclassmen that felt more like a home than a dormitory. Located across the street from the main campus, the West Cedar Street Student Housing buildings are designed around an interior courtyard. The courtyards encourage a community atmosphere and evoke a formal landscape of plantings, lighting and seating areas. The buildings are divided into townhouse units, every unit featuring two full baths, living room, large eat-in kitchen with two refrigerators, and four two-student bedrooms. The bathrooms were designed as compartments for the use by more than one student at a time, with the toilet and shower areas each in separate rooms. At each complex the walk-out basement of one of the buildings houses additional facilities for student use including laundry, convenience store, fitness room, and café with internet access. All facilities are accessed by swipe controlled entry, and video cameras and emergency call boxes were installed throughout the complex areas for student security.
