KENT TOWN CENTER (LIBRARY, TOWN HALL, POLICE STATION)

The Kent Town Center includes three compatible structures—the Town Hall, the Library, and the Police/Court Facility—in a campus-like setting. The facility was designed in a traditional New England style and has a low maintenance exterior of brick and cast stone.

The central building in the complex, the Town Hall is intended to serve the growing governmental needs of the Town. Entrance through the center doors of the symmetrical façade leads to a central lobby atrium which is naturally lit by the large glazed cupola above. The far side of the central axis contains the Meeting Hall which also serves as the Town Court. Juges’ chambers and work areas flank this room. The wings to each side hold offices of the Supervisor, Town Clerk, Assessor, Planning Department, Building Inspector and Recreation Department. A 3,000 SF basement, used to house records and mechanical equipment, brings the total area of the building to 14,500 SF.

The Library has its main entry leading to a vaulted central lobby housing the main circulation desk of custom millwork.

The wings to each side house the book stacks with study carrels along each wall. At the end of the main stack wing are study rooms and a large reading room enclosed by a windowed reading bay. To the right is the children’s wing with a story area, activity room and youth room. A hallway spine at the rear of the building connects the Director’s office, support offices, work spaces and lounge. A 3,000 SF basement, to be used for storage, expansion and mechanical equipment, brings the total area of the building to 13,500 SF.

Completing the Kent Town Center is the 13,000 SF Police/Court Facility.
